Christopher Locker and myself organized a local lake cleanup of Durrance Lake in October 2016. We had a small dedicated group of volunteers joining us for both surface and underwater support. We collected about a ton of debris that was collected by CRD.
Debris was mostly can and bottles, but stranger things like a toilet, tires and fishing equipment was found as well. With the bottom composition of the lake being very soft and undefined it is very likely the whole bottom is littered with debris we cant see, and only able to remove debris that is light enough to not sink through.
For our next year cleanup we will have more surface support and try to get more volunteers to help. Here are some pictures of the event.
